Embracing change

This is the time of year when I think about change. I think about what is bound to change in the future, and what has changed in the past whether I wanted it to or not. And that's really the thing, isn't it? Because when we are the ones who decide to make a change we feel empowered and emboldened. But when we are the ones having change thrust upon us, we feel embittered and resentful. But what if that wasn't the case? What if, no matter how the change happened, we looked at it with an open heart?

When the door closes to what was before and you step into a new place, you are forced to consider other aspects as well. You may find yourself starting a new life, going in a new direction. It's something you may not have chosen but there you are anyway, on the other side of that door. Never able to go back.  Forced to move forward. Forced to move on.

And maybe in the moving forward we feel unsteady and uncertain in the beginning, but as is always true with something new, it soon becomes familiar. So it's ultimately up to you to decide what it is you will surround yourself with in this new space. Will you bring sadness or will you bring hope? Will you bring anger or will you bring joy? Will you bring what didn't serve you in the past or will you jettison it for a new way of thinking? It's up to you. To cast off what didn't serve you. To embrace the opportunity you have been given. To take a step in this new life- whether you wanted to or not.

Lesson learned.
