Sometimes it's just hard work

Here's what I realized the other day: sometimes it's hard to be a single parent. Sometimes it's hard to be a good friend. Sometimes it's hard to be a good co-worker or boss or employee. Sometimes it's hard to be a girlfriend or boyfriend or just friend. Sometimes it's just hard to deal with it all on a daily basis.

I also realize that these tests that we go through, these hard times that we face, and these moments of doubt, are those times when our faith is truly tested. Those are the times when we are put to the task. Those are the times when you have to rely upon a force that cannot be seen or felt, but must be believed.

These days, these nights, these moments where we are brought to our knees, those times when we are cut to the core, those words that hurt or circumstances that seem unfair, those are the times when we wonder why. Why can't it just be easy? Why can't things just work out well? Why can't your past deeds count for something? Why can't your past pain be enough?

It can seem overwhelming. It can seem to be too much. It can seem as if all of the work that we have done trying to do the right thing and walking the right path is for nothing. But it's not for nothing, it just can't be, it all has to be part of the plan, it all has to count for something.

Because I can't believe that the life we are supposed to live is supposed to be filled with sadness. I can't believe that life is meant to have things turn out wrong. I can't believe that all of this work and all of this hope and all of this faith is falling on deaf ears. I can't believe that the struggle can be so hard and not have something be worth it in the end.

No, we may not want things to be as they are, but no, that doesn't mean it has to be that way forever. If we just believe that good things will happen, maybe then we can be uplifted just a bit, maybe our spirits will shine just a little more. That's not to say that it will all be easy, but it is to say that it can be easier. Hope is never lost unless we are the ones to lose it. Faith is never gone unless we are the ones to give up. So hold on, my friends, just for this minute, just for today, because I do believe that this will all work out, even if we can't see it clearly yet.

After all, this is the life.

  1. Good things are happening all the time. Just open your eyes and look around. Easy things are also happening. You are breathing without realizing it. Your eyes blink and you don't think about it. The sun rises and sets. Your electricity is still working. I could go on and on. Sometimes an attitude change is all that is needed. Nothing turns out wrong or right. It just turns out. You decide whether it is right or wrong according to your attitude. The key lies in your last sentence, how you see it...........

  2. Allison, this post (and some of your other recent posts) remind me of one of my favorite quotes ~ "Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets: So love the people who treat you right. Forget about the people that don't. Believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it."
