Stop listening to the voices around you

I think there comes a time in our lives when we stop listening to the voices around us and start listening to our own voice; when we decide to stop believing what others say, when we stop buying into what others preach, when we stop basing our self-worth on how others view us. It's that time when the voice inside that has been so quiet has finally had enough and has decided to roar. It's those times in our lives when we are most afraid, but we should also be most inspired.

For some of us, the thought of not doing what others think we should is unimaginable. We buy into the stories that others tell us about how we should live our lives or what our lives should be, even if we know it to be un-fulfilling. For some of us, the thought of disappointing those we love and admire is so frightening it paralyzes us into submission. But as we get older, and as we understand and appreciate the preciousness of life, at some point we decide to act in spite of the fear, in spite of the possibility of disappointment, in spite of the unknown of what our life may bring if we do what we want instead of what we should.

It's my wish for everyone to wake up and live the life they want, not just do what is expected. It's my hope that all of us embrace and enjoy what it is we desire, no matter how judged we may feel for so choosing. It's my belief that our lives should be relished, not simply played out how someone else sees us, so that at the end, we chose our true selves, we chose our true souls, we chose our true life, to live as we should.

Lesson learned.

  1. Many truths here. I am watching someone now live their life according to someone else's expectations. In a few years she will have her foot behind her own behind. It takes a while for each of us to arrive and discover who we are. Hope you are doing well.

  2. Linda, It's so hard watching people listen to others when we know they should listen to their own voice. Hoping your friend finds her voice soon. Hope you are well too!
