Just for now

Some days all you can do is take one breath at a time. One step at a time. One moment at a time. Not knowing how you will get to the next breath or step or moment, how you will make it through. How you will be there for others when you can barely consider being there for yourself? But you do. And you will.

Because in times of great sadness or anxiety sometimes the only thing to keep you grounded is to focus on what's now. What's right now. Not what's to come. Not how you will get there. Not what you will do. But just to live in and be in this moment. And let the rest come as it will.

Those times in our lives when things seem most unsettled and unsure and hopeless are those same moments we have to ground ourselves solidly. To just get through, as best we can, what is right in front of us. The rest will take care of itself, it will, because it has to. Because life continues to move forward but all we have to do is hang on to right now. Your breath will come. Your steps will come. And one day, you will look up, and realize what you have made it through and know how much more you could bear than you could have imagined.

Lesson learned.

  1. Great advice often these lessons are learned later in life. The sooner we can apply this the better.
