Apologies

There are always events that happen in life that we regret. Actions we took but shouldn’t. Words we said and can never retrieve. Hurt feelings and wounded souls as a result of what we did or didn’t do. And so we apologize. We say we’re sorry. We say we have learned and will try harder next time.

But the thing about apologies is that you can’t make someone accept them. You can’t make them open their heart or open their ears or listen to what you say. You can’t make someone forgive or soften or feel anything more than what they do.

But does that mean we shouldn’t ask for forgiveness or say we’re sorry? Not at all. It means we say it and we mean it. It means we accept responsibility and move forward. It means not being responsible for what someone feels, but also not taking that on ourselves. It means doing all we can, the best we can, and letting others find their way.

Lesson learned.
