Every moment matters

My yoga teacher mentioned the other day that yoga includes the practice of appreciating that every moment matters. Each moment in a pose. Each moment of success in learning or being able to go a little bit further than you did before. Each moment of discomfort and realizing the edge of our ability. And the fact that each moment in yoga matters, means the same for our lives.

When we have times of great joy, of accomplishment, of happiness, those moments matter and should be relished. But just as those wonderful times matter, so do the times of sadness and angst. Because without one, the true appreciation of the other is a little lost. Without knowing times of trepidation we can't fully appreciate those times of comfort. Without knowing times of sorrow we cannot also truly appreciate those times of elation.

Being grateful for moments of sorrow seems awful, but it is those moments that outline and highlight the delightful moments as well. So in those times when you are down, remember that this will not last forever, and taking in those moments will also allow you to more fully see and relish the good times that will come.
