Making it count

I think it's both a function of my age and a function of our times, but the reminder of the fragility of life seems to be ever-present right now. Thinking about how uncertain it is - the time we have- brings to bear certain truths. That we should live in a way that connects us with others. That we should live in a way that we make an impact on those we care about. That we should live in a way that when we are gone, those in our lives knew what they meant to us. That we should live in a way that we do not regret what we have failed to do or failed to say.

While we are here, it's easy to second guess what we should do or say, but the reality is that for those we love and who care about us, we can't do or say anything wrong. What we say to others and what we do for them, is often what they will remember about us. Being there, spending time, sharing stories, and making memories, are the fabric of life that carries on when we are no longer here. It's when we don't say something or don't do something that we lose out and miss opportunities.

So living our life as best we can, making mistakes and missteps, offering our spirit and our friendship, being together when we can and thinking of each other when we cannot- is all right. It's all in the living. It's all in the experience. It's all in the sharing and connecting and being someone who matters to someone else and showing how much someone else matters to you, that makes it all worth it, every moment and every day.

Lesson learned.

  1. Well stated. We all have so many opportunities to do kindnesses. Why not take them?
