Someone on your side

Sometimes it's just knowing that someone is on your side that makes all the difference. I was sitting with a client in court and as she was listening to a day of half-truths and skewed story-telling, I was happy I could be there for her; not just as her attorney, but also so that she didn't feel quite so alone. There are times when I come home from work and it's me and my kids and I am just exhausted. But there's dinner to make and laundry to do and homework to be completed, and then I log onto Facebook or get an email from a friend and suddenly I don't feel quite so alone.

Having a friend or group of friends who are there for you, whether you talk to them once a day or once a year, just makes you feel better. Just knowing there are others to whom you can turn somehow makes the day seem not so long and the night seem not so dark.

It will all be ok. Sometimes I just have to remind myself of that. And today, I'm reminding you as well.

After all, this is the life.

  1. Well said. We all need that moment of knowing we're not alone. Sometimes you don't actually need or want to talk. Simply knowing someone else is there is all you need.

  2. Sometimes, I know my lawyering is not as good as it should be. But, no matter what my "performance" level is, I always "walk with my client" through the process. Hopefully, they feel that. Sometimes, that is all I can do. Thanks Allison, for reminding me of that...
