When we are in a time in our life when we feel scared and without control, it's usually our first instinct to dig in, to hold on, to grasp out and cling to whatever we can. And while those actions are instinctive and seem to be the right move, that usually just leads to more stress and worry about what more we could lose. I think maybe the answer is actually the exact opposite of holding on, I think the answer is giving.
Giving what we can to someone in need. Being a support for someone struggling. Doing something for someone else, and asking nothing in exchange. Because in giving what we can, in doing what we can, in being what we can for someone else, we take the focus off of our lives, we open ourselves up, and we allow ourselves to be the light for someone else.
And being the light means bringing light into ourselves. It means letting in the light in our own minds. It means breaking through the dark shadows of worry and concern, and feeling joyful, lighter. Helping someone else, giving to someone else, showing someone else we are there for them, allows us, in our own minds. to know that it will all be ok in the end, and so will we.
